Shopping is plentiful and great value particularly locally made arts and craft products and two of the best places for clothes are Le Grand Caudan Waterfront or the island's main tourist resort of Grand Baie, the centre for yachting, fishing and water-sports. You may also encounter the beach vendors who will barter on their wears, which can range from fresh pineapples or coconuts, to shells, sarongs, baskets and jewellery.
In Mauritius, after the sun sets the music begins raising the island's heartbeat and your body moving with Sega music, this is a music style born from African music, with the added Creole patios lyrics. There are also other forms of entertainment such as casinos, piano bars, discos and nightclubs for those who like to continue into the night.

Explore the island and view the Casela Bird Park, the Pampelmousse Gardens, the Black River Gorge and National Park, where you will find an array of magnificent bird life including pink pigeons, plus there is the nature reserve of Domaine Les Paillles
Visit Port Louis, the capital city and freeport , it is filled with colour and activity and the market is a must for bargains
La Citadelle for amazing views of the 19th century architecture, and the Natural History Museum to view the rare artifacts
The Max Boulle - a wonderful art gallery where many exhibitions of local Mauritian art are held Champs de Mars in Port Louis - the oldest racecourse in the Indian Ocean ( racing season May - December)
