Spain is still very much a holiday favourite for both the young and the old, as it not only provides hot summers and mild winters, it has the attraction of culture, natural beauty, seaside towns, innovative cuisine and of course the fantastic sporting facilities. There is also the excitement of the weekend town festivals, known locally as "feria" or "rocio" which are held in true Andalucian tradition to celebrate the local saint and generally take place throughout the summer months. The coast tends to be busy and bustling with great beaches, bars, restaurants, shops and nightclubs, whereas further inland the pace is slower in and around the typical Andalucian villages. Try some of the local favourites, a nice chilled glass of sherry (Spanish of course!) with tapas which can be enjoyed anytime of the day, or a delicious bowl of Gazpacho or even a tasty serving of paella all complemented by the selection of local wines. Our villa selection complements the main locations along the stretch of coastline between Gibraltar and Malaga, including Marbella, Puerto Banus, Estepona and Sotogrande, many within walking distance of the beach and some are located within the hillside and around many of the golf courses.
Marbella and Puerto Banus are two of the more stylish and sought after locations with fashionable restaurants and bistros, over 14 golf courses, sandy beach and fabulous marinas to moor your privately chartered yacht. Marbella still has the charm of the old town with the ancient Moorish and medieval influences clearly still visible as you wander through the narrow streets lined with white washed houses towards the central square, Plaza de Naranjos.
Sotogrande and Estepona are situated further along the coastline towards Gibraltar, and are slightly less busy and developed, but still have very desirable residential locations. Estepona has a wonderful fish market and quieter beaches and the exclusive area of Sotgrande is famous for the exciting polo tournaments, challenging golf courses and the superb marina, Puerto Sotogrande surrounded by shops, restaurants and new apartments.
Sotogrande is the luxury, 5,000 acre resort on the southern Mediterranean coast close to Gibraltar, renowned as being one of the most stylish and prestigious in the world. Purpose built, it has developed into a complete community with its own local shops, school, sports facilities, golf clubs, marina, banks, restaurants, hotels and bars. For the golfer - Sotogrande is unrivalled as a golf destination. Valderrama is one of the finest courses in the world and has played host to the Ryder Cup and, combined with the three other courses, gives the golfing enthusiast untold choice.
For the sailor - Puerto Sotogrande has nearly 600 berths catering for vessels of up to 72 metres. Each berth is connected to all services including television and satellite and harbour staff are available 24 hours a day. The Sotogrande sailing school offers all the facilities required to provide expert sailing and windsurfing tuition for both the experienced and the novice.
For the rider - Polo is the other sport for which Sotogrande is rightly renowned. The Santa Maria Club is the hub of Spanish polo and stages an international tournament each August. The club's magnificent setting and fine facilities attract top players from all over the world. There are superb stabling facilities and horses are also available for hire.
For everybody - Tennis, swimming, fishing and other keep fit and leisure activities are all catered for along with the finest supervised activities for children during holiday periods. For those who prefer less energetic pursuits, there are exclusive beach clubs, stylish restaurants and bars whilst the nearby village of Pueblo Neuvo is ideal for browsing a variety of shops.
